Moon-related goodness
Right then folks... That nice Mr Staley sent me a link to this: http://www.hermit.org/Eclipse/2007-03-03/

Turns out this weekend should see a lunar eclipse as well as a rather nice full moon rising at saturday tea-time.

I'm rather gutted my new camera hasn't turned up yet, but we've as yet been unable to pay for it due to time-consuming complications with paypal. At least the seller is being understanding and it should all be sorted out soon. Still, there'll be other times, other moonrises and eclipses to photograph... and I do have a decent digital and a film slr for this weekend anyway.

As for what we're doing, I think we should meet up in The Castle for lunch, around 12, then go from there. After lunch we'll go down to Peak Cavern, then up to Mam Tor to watch the moon come up. Those of you staying for the moonrise would be well advised to wrap up warm!

Do you have room for 2 in your car?

Sorry, no - with the car seat there's only room for one extra. Plus we're probably going to stay in Castleton for the night...

That sounds like wonderful fun, although it hadn't quite registered how long it was going to go on for - given the above link was, while very emphatic, somewhat unintelligible for us uninitiated types (my interests lie in a different sphere of esoteric-ness), I'm still a bit clueless.

I am hoping to watch the moonrise, and eclipses sound very interesting too - but what kind of time is the celestial goodness going to be happening? (in GMT if possible).

And can I rely on some form of transport back to crookes?

"The total eclipse lasts for over one hour; it begins at 22:43:49 UT on March 3 and ends at 23:58:01 UT"

UT = GMT

Not sure about lifts and things, will need to talk to K

I imagine it wouldn't be impossible to get a taxi home.

I'll be out and about for a while at least ;-) I've not managed to get camera sorted out yet either, although I was after the one you got!

Catch you soon

I'm quite tempted to do the walk up mam tor but moolah prevents me from doing the caverny bits. Any time-guesses other than 'Saturday teatime'?

Aim for the top of Mam Tor for 5pm. We'll be able to watch the moon rise and sun set (timings here)

Sounds terribly well planned out - but I think I'm coming down with the lurg. :-(

Hope to be there! Hope the weather is ok too!

Cunning Plan!

Ok, the fella and I have a cunning plan.

We'll come on the bus, meet you for lunch and caverning, then head back to Sheffield at tea-time. Since I'm not up to hiking/sitting in the cold, and grok has other evening plans.

I'll miss all the moon/sunset action which is a shame, but I'll console myself by snuggling up in the warm with a nice beer and by hopefully seeing your brill photos after :-)
